ROYAL OAK ADDRESSES ONLY
We take snow calls for the City of Royal Oak, nothing else.

Before it snows
Ask before you sign:
- What depth brings the plow?
- Is the walk in the price? The salt?
- Does the second pass count? The city says the end of the drive has to be cleared again after its plow goes through (the city’s page).
- How many visits does the price cover, and what does one more cost?
- If the plow catches the lawn, the curb or the mailbox, who pays?
- Can I see proof of insurance?
- Where does the snow go?
Then ask: is all of this in the contract?
A season contract runs $200 to $600 across the country.
| One plowing of an average driveway (under 70 feet) | $30 – $50 |
|---|---|
| Per visit — plowing, blowing or shoveling | $30 – $70 |
| Per storm, up to 6 inches | $30 – $100 |
| Seasonal contract | $200 – $600 |
| Sidewalk shoveling, by the hour | $25 – $75 |
| Salt, per application | $20 – $65 |
| Roof raking, per visit | $200 – $500 |
National ranges from HomeGuide’s December 2024 chart. Not a Royal Oak price, and not ours.
When should I sign?
Before the first storm. At Detroit Metro Airport, the nearest station with a long record, most of the season’s 45 inches falls from December through February (the weather service’s normals).
Royal Oak sets no sidewalk deadline. The street is another story.
The code makes the owner responsible for the walk and sets no hour; the city can clear it and bill the cost plus 10%. The 7-10 rule is a pledge, not a law. What the code does fine is snow pushed from your property into the street, by you or anyone you hired: fines of at least $50, then $100, then $250, then a misdemeanor. the charter · the pledge · the street rule · the fines

Ask where the snow goes. In Royal Oak, the street isn’t an answer.
Does calling cost anything?
Not from us. Some contractors charge to look at the job, so ask first.
